BEST ON GROUND (Fyson Medal) GRAND FINAL LEAGUE
One of the most sought-after individual honours in Goldfields football is the Fyson Medal, awarded for the best afield in inter-league fixtures and league grand finals.

The medal was introduced in 1981 by Goldfields businessman Chris Fyson as an incentive for local players to represent the Goldfields and to recognise outstanding performances.
The inaugural winner was former Kambalda champion ruck-rover Kim Anderson for a superlative display in the Eagles' grand final victory over Kalgoorlie in 1981.

There are six dual winners of the award.
Glenn O'Loughlin won his first medal in 1982 and another two in 1988, while Mines' Alby McKenzie took out the award in 1991, 1993 and again in 1995.

Boulder's Bradley George won successive medals in 1990/91 and another Tiger in Michael Miller won the medal twice in 1994 (v. Eastern Districts in an inter-league fixture and against Mines in the grand final).

The fifth dual winner is Mines' Craig Hoycard, with a grand final double in 1993 and 1996, and the latest is his Diorites teammate Rob Hansen with successes in 1998 (Great Southern Carnival), 2001 (GFL grand final) and 2002 (GFL - Wesfarmers Carnival).
